Natural and Organic wines are wines produced from grapes grown in vineyards where the soil is enriched by the use of natural composts and organic preparations . There are no chemicals , preservatives , pesticides used either in the vineyard or the winery. These wines are usually produced by small vineyards where the grapes are hand harvested , and the wine produced reflect the characteristics of the region , the vineyard , the grape variety , the microclimate and the grower. Quality is the determining factor. These wines are not produced in vast quantities to satisfy the mass market , sprayed with chemicals and pesticides , machine harvested by the tonne , produced in factories with computerised technology . In many of these cases price rather than quality is the determining factor.
